St. John Chef Mathayom Vacharat, one of the preferred chefs at St. John villa Presidio del Mar, took top honors in a new entry in the Virgin Islands Carnival "Food Fair": The Virgin Fresh Ultimate Chef Competition sponsored by Banco Popular. The contest was supported by contributions from UVI Department of Agriculture, UVI Cooperative Extension Service, and Green Thumb Farms.
Chefs from the U.S. and British Virgin Islands were required to create culinary masterpieces from locally-grown foods at the Marie David Cultural Fair in the Emancipation Garden in downtown Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas. The prize was $1,000 and a Versace plate to be emblazoned with the winning team, Mathayom Private Chefs. And, of course, mad props!
