TRIPSO.com, a leading travel industry blog, recently posted an article on a program that many travelers may not know of, and we thought we'd share it with out visitors.
It's called the "Secure Flight" program, and its aim is to keep us from becoming inadvertently caught up in the so-called "watch list" that results in so many misunderstandings and frustrating delays.
Just launched on May 15, 2009, the object is to match the name on your ticket with your government-issued identification. We are also told that beginning in August 2009, both date of birth and gender will be required when booking reservations.
According to the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) web site:
Secure Flight is a program developed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in response to a key 9/11 Commission recommendation: uniform watch list matching by TSA. The mission of the Secure Flight program is to enhance the security of domestic and international commercial air travel through the use of improved watch list matching.
All in the name of speed and progress, we can only assume! It pays to know before you... go!
