Earl brushed by to our north, toppling some big trees, a few telephone poles and ruffling our lush island landscaping. Within a couple of days the power was back on for the most part, and many businesses reopening. The sun continues to shine, and there is still plenty of greenery all around.
Fortunately for our office, we were able to get up and running within the first hour of curfew being lifted this past Tuesday thanks to our trusty generator and the company that maintains it, Import Supply, and crack engineer at Broadband VI, Jody Davis for our internet connectivity and remote login capability.
Our island managers are now checking in, and we are pleased to report that while landscaping at many of our villas has taken quite a thrashing (and we sadly lost some beautiful old trees), that few structural damages have been reported. At this time, all curfews have been lifted, the children are back in school, and government operations are running normally. The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) and Innovative Telephone (as well as other communications service providers) have plenty to do in some isolated areas, but most have use of their utilities again.
Over the past few days, a dramatic improvement has been wrought by our tireless WAPA personnel, who have been working into the dead of night under halogen lights, to restore electrical service to small pockets still affected by Hurricane Earl... and Mother Nature always sees to our beaches, flora and fauna. It's her way.
