Angela, our concierge and I went to Caneel Bay Hotel on St. John for our 2pm Kayak/Hike/Snorkel tour by the VI EcoTours. Our guide met us promptly and got us set up right away with Kayaks, snorkel gear, water, and a few mini candy bars for energy after snorkeling.
We loaded our 2-man kayaks and paddled around to the other side of Caneel Bay. Because the trail was closed the Sunday we did our tour, we took a lovely stroll around the grounds of the hotel. Our guide was very knowledgeable of the history and benefits or dangers of the plants, trees, and animals that were on the property.
He allowed us some photo opportunities during our walk and then led us back down to the beach for snorkeling. I am not the best person for activities that put me in deep water but the snorkeling was great!
After I got over my claustrophobic feelings, I saw sea turtles in their natural home, stingrays, a parrot fish, and lovely corals. I even heard the fishes crunching on corals! Because I am seeing, I know what’s going on under the water and that helped me to really relax and enjoy the time we spent snorkeling.
After snorkeling, we enjoyed our candy bars and got in the kayaks to head back. We were initially shaky with the kayaks in the beginning but really got the hang of it when we were heading back. So much so that we raced each other back to the home base. It was truly a fun time!
